Biography

Hannah Mortimer is a Canadian artist and educator whose work is deeply informed by personal history, memory, and resilience. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Mortimer experienced the sudden loss of both parents at a young age—her mother in 2011 when she was eight years old, and her father in 2013 at the age of eleven. Following these losses, she was raised alongside her younger sister by her aunt and uncle on an acreage in Millarville, Alberta.

Through painting and mixed media practices, Mortimer explores themes of grief, trauma, emotional development, and healing. Her work examines the lasting impact of childhood loss and the ways personal experiences shape identity, memory, and emotional understanding. By translating deeply personal narratives into visual form, she aims to create work that resonates through vulnerability, reflection, and connection.

Mortimer graduated with honours from Alberta University of the Arts in 2025 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts, majoring in Painting. She is currently completing her Bachelor of Education at St. Mary's University, specializing in Secondary English Language Arts. Alongside her artistic practice, Mortimer is passionate about arts education and plans to pursue a career teaching art at the middle and high school levels, where she hopes to inspire creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking in future generations.
